James Rand is a mixing engineer and music producer based in South East London. Having grown up in Liverpool he became a key part of the city’s club scene as a resident DJ at Chibuku, before going to study audio engineering at SAE. After graduating, he moved to London where he began engineering records for emerging electronic artists such as Sega Bodega and Beatrice Dillon.
James cofounded production duo God Colony in 2015, who have collaborated with artists such as Flohio, Kojey Radical and Mykki Blanco. The duo’s style is influenced by global club rhythms, hip hop and UK techno, and to date they have released a number of singles that have received radio play on 1Xtra, Radio 1 and 6Music. They’ve performed across the UK and Europe, and their latest EP “North West Tonight” is due out on their own label Crack Copies this October. They executive produced the debut Flohio album and also recently produced an OST for a feature film with Bobby Gillespie from Primal Scream.
In partnership with Yasmina Dexter, James has engineered the runway soundtracks for numerous luxury fashion houses including Gucci, Fendi and Ferragamo. His vast knowledge of music and technical ability in the studio has led to him becoming a go-to mixing engineer for artists across the world.
